Abstract
In the first decade of this century, it is observed a change of meanings attributed at “to be-man” and also at “to be father”, recognized now not only as providers of financial and material support, but also as able to perform tasks and activities before identified as belonging to the feminine universe. Increasingly paternity becomes not only considered as a duty for to be fulfilled, but as a right by men. The aim of this paper is to present the process of building a photographic essay titled “Qualé Papai! Another look about the adolescent fatherhood “and analyze your potential for to create spaces of critical-reflective dialogue about the issue. The study was conducted in an area peripheral in Belo Horizonte-MG, called Vila Cafezal. In end of the process were chosen 16 photos to compose the photographic exhibition. It is also part of the exhibition a collection of black and white images with overlapping fragments of speeches drawn from interviews with parents. The exhibition toured public spaces in the Belo Horizonte city with great presence of teenagers, followed by rounds of conversation and discussions with young people. The analysis of the construction of the photographic essay “Qualé Papai!” and the adolescents discourse’ point to the potential of using photography in Public Health, revealing that this is an important device capable of firing processes of signification and meaning production indispensable for the promotion practices, education and health communication.
