Abstract
The violence against women is a growing reality in Brazil. This study have as objective analyze the contexts and facts involved in the police reports found at the Delegacia de Defesa da Mulher (Precinct that deals with women’s defense) from women who were victims of violence in the city of Sobral – Ceará, in the year 2009. The research is Documental, retrospective and cross sectional study, with a quantitative approach; carried out from the police reports (PR) of the denunciations from women victims of violence. The data were processed using the Programs Excel and SPSS-13. In results it was observed that the main victims of violence are between 31 and 40 years old, incomplete high school and an average of two children. They also had a stable relationship with the aggressor at the moment of the aggression which, most of the cases happened due to the abuse of alcohol from the part of the aggressor. Psychological violence forms the majority of the cases, 84% of them, followed by physical violence, 57.5%. Conclude that the detection of the cases, their reception and answer to the service require a specificity of the approach so that this violence may emerge past the denunciation.
