New family configurations generated by the COVID-19 pandemic and its psychosocial impacts
This is a study that aimed to carry out a sample diagnosis of the reality of families that were affected by deaths by COVID-19. Through a qualitative approach, the new family configurations generated by these deaths were investigated and the psychosocial impacts of these losses on the lives of family members were identified. The target audience surveyed were families from the administrative regions of Brasília-DF affected by the death of a family member by the pandemic. Fourteen people representing families impacted by losses by COVID-19 were interviewed. The data showed: a) the family reconfiguration and its alterations; b) the psychological impacts of the illness, hospitalization and death process on families; c) the socio-financial impacts of the loss of the family member; d) the experience of mourning by the families.
