Abstract

This article aims to critically analyse interdisciplinarity and the way it is understood and implemented in health work. The production of data took place through bibliographical research and integrative review of scientific articles in the health field in journals indexed in the databases SCIELO, BVS, LILACS, PUBMED, published between January 2007 and December 2017. It was identified the lack of consensus on the concept and it was found that the theme spans different areas of knowledge. The results were organized into two groups: interdisciplinarity in academic training and professional performance. Among the evidences it was found that although health work has as a guiding principle comprehensive care, and the National Curricular Guidelines are based on interdisciplinary training, curricula based on disciplines are still predominant in undergraduate courses related to health, which reflects in disjointed and isolated practices. It is concluded that interdisciplinary practices in line with the principle of integrality of health actions become increasingly necessary, both to maintain the dialogue between different fields of knowledge and to strengthen professional relationships, as well as to better respond to health needs.
